Commissions are welcomed for what ever painting you would like.  If you have a favourite photograph then you can let me use that for reference if you like or you can just let me know what you would like and leave the rest to me.

I also sell limited edition giclee prints of all my works and price depends on the size you would like.  Please message me at clairebroughtonart@xtra.co.nz with any queries.

Pricing for a commission or original painting - let me know what you are expecting regarding size and detail.  Once we establish that then I can give you an idea of what the price would be.

Pricing for giclee art print - from $150 for an A4 size print plus postage.

Please take the time to read through this guide in the hope that it will be clear and helpful to you.

1.  Photographs

Good photographs are the key to a good painting. Please provide good quality, clear, in focus photos,  preferably high resolution and email it to me.   Make sure the camera setting is suitable for printing rather than for email which reduces the size, even if you are going to email it.  Cameras tend to produce better photos than i-phones.  I will need to print it when it arrives for reference.  If you have more than one pet and want two on the same painting please let me know.

If you want to use an existing original photograph please organise to get it copied and send that to me at the address details on my Say Hello page.  Please do not post the original.

If you want to order a pet portrait here a few tips.

Although she looks very cute, it is not a flattering angle from which to paint a

portrait.  Take the photograph preferably at their level, not looking down on them

as demonstrated here:

This would make a good study, it is even better without the collar or lead!

Head and shoulders photos are best taken on their level, as demonstrated here:

Although this is a lovely profile it is a bit too brightly lit.  Best results are obtained in

natural daylight (actually cloudy conditions are best – the colours are more natural)

but not bright sunshine which can produce glare and reduce the fine details, as

demonstrated here:

Finally, this would be even better without the collar but it is a good example of a

suitable photograph!:

Thank you to Poppy, my beautiful collie cross for being a perfect model and hopefully demonstrating what makes a good and not so good portrait to study.

It is a good idea if one person distracts your pet with a treat so that their attention is diverted while you get photographing!  Good luck!

If you are ordering a painting of a baby it does not matter if they are lying and you are  looking down on them or across to them.

2.  Ordering

Once you are happy that you have a suitable photograph and you know what kind of painting you would like contact me via the Say Hello page.  I will then ask you to e-mail me your photo and place a non-returnable deposit of half the total cost and this will confirm your order.  Payment can be made via  bank transfer or cash.

3.  Confirmation

Once I have received your photo and deposit we will run through the details so we are both clear of expectations for the end result.  I will then start your order asap.  If you need it for a specific date tell me now!

4.  Proofing

Once I have completed your painting I will email you a photograph to make sure you are happy with the result.  Please note that alteration at this stage will be difficult.  If for some reason you are not happy we can cancel your order and I will retain your deposit for the work done.  If you are happy full payment will be required at this stage before posting.

5.  Payment

Once you have approved your painting I will invoice you for the balance remaining which is required within 10 days.  Once full payment is made your painting will  be  posted out to you or you can collect if you are local. Please note I will not be responsible for any duties or taxes incurred if you place your order outside of New Zealand.

Your Painting

Your pet or baby portrait will show them as the star attraction with a suitable contrasting colour background.   There will be additional costs if you want a detailed background or another pet on the same painting.  See the Pricing page for more information.

Your painting will be on finest quality watercolour paper using the best artist quality watercolours that comply with the highest quality standard regarding stability, fineness  and light-fastness.

Your painting will come complete with a suitable matt/mount board but will  not be  framed.   This will hugely reduce posting costs and leave you to choose a frame to suit your taste and its surroundings.

Your painting will be securely and safely packaged and posted via standard post.  If you wish for traceable postage this will inevitably incur extra costs, please let me know at the confirmation stage.
